Our history

The Knowsley Engineering company was founded in 1896 in a former stable yard in Knowsley Street, Manchester. The company grew very quickly and before the turn of the century had to move to bigger premises as the company very quickly expanded its product range of valves and fittings for the firefighting industry.

In 1937 with the threat of war looming leading to increased production demands due to government contracts the company moved again in the Manchester area to ensure it could fully support the war effort. The 1970’s saw major changes in the industry driven by the development of oil and gas platforms in the North Sea, the expertise and experience that Knowsley had enabled them to build the largest water monitor ever built with a 300 mm nozzle and measured water flows of 1 tonne per second (60,000 litres per minute) with an effective trajectory of over 300 meters.

By 1984 Knowsley had formed a very strong business relationship with Saval Kronenburg (our sister company Saval) which eventually led to Knowsley being acquired and the two companies being part of the same group company. Knowsley were renamed at that point and became Knowsley SK Limited. In 1991 Knowsley SK moved to its present site in Trafford Park, Manchester and continued to grow successfully which resulted in the business opening up an office in Abu Dhabi in 2009 to support the Middle East markets along with doubling the factory space in 2010 at Trafford Park to support further growth.

Knowsley SK, are now part of the High Value Asset business unit within the SK FireSafety Group and continue to be at the forefront of fire protection system design and supply to the high risk oil, gas, and petrochemical industries worldwide with a very well known range of specialist water and foam based products
